Thousands of Fraud Fighters to Arrive Sunday in Orlando

More than 2,300 professional fraud sleuths will arrive here Sunday for the 23rd Annual ACFE Fraud Conference & Exhibition, June 17-22, 2012. The world’s largest gathering of anti-fraud professionals will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. 

More than 2,300 professional fraud sleuths will arrive here Sunday for the 23rd Annual ACFE Fraud Conference & Exhibition, June 17-22, 2012. The world’s largest gathering of anti-fraud professionals will take place at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. 

Former U.S. Senator Chris Dodd and Olympus whistleblower Michael Woodford head the list of keynote speakers and presenters who will share their insight and expertise with an audience of Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs), investigators, auditors, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and other security, risk and compliance professionals.  

The conference will also provide more than 80 educational sessions focused on the latest techniques and best practices in fraud detection, dealing with subjects such as how fraudsters fool auditors, employment background checks to prevent fraud, and using open source intelligence in investigations, just to name a few. 

Other leading speakers include New York Times and Forbes contributor Diana B. Henriques, author of “The Wizard of Lies” (a book about the Bernie Madoff scandal), and best-selling author Pamela Meyer, CFE. Attendees will also hear from fraudster Mark Whitacre, whose story is the subject of the Warner Brothers and Steven Soderbergh-directed feature film "The Informant!" starring Matt Damon. 

Highlights of the event include: 

MONDAY  

• Opening General Session, 8:30 – 9:50 a.m., featuring Diana B. Henriques, the veteran financial journalist who conducted the first post-incarceration interview with Bernie Madoff.  
• Monday afternoon General Session, 11:40 a.m. – 1:10 p.m., featuring Michael Woodford – former CEO of Olympus Corp., who was ousted after blowing the whistle on a vast fraud at the company.  

TUESDAY  

• Tuesday morning General Session features Senator Chris Dodd, co-author of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. 
• Our Fraud Museum traveling exhibit, “Consider the Victims: Shades of Innocence,” showcases more than 30 pieces from the world’s only collection of historical fraud pieces and memorabilia (available Monday and Tuesday).  

WEDNESDAY  

• Wednesday closing session, 11:40 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., features convicted fraudster Mark Whitacre, whose story is the subject of the Warner Brothers and Steven Soderbergh-directed feature film "The Informant!" starring Matt Damon.
