Toronto to host 2011 ACFE Canadian Fraud Conference

It is against this backdrop that anti-fraud professionals will gather in Toronto for expert training at the ACFE 17th Annual Canadian Fraud Conference, November 27-30, 2011 at the Hilton Toronto. The ACFE is the world’s largest anti-fraud association and premier provider of anti-fraud training and education. 

The median fraud loss and other statistics lend a sense of urgency to the conference. Based upon survey results from Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) who investigated cases between January 2008 and December 2009, the study found corruption, billing and expense reimbursement schemes were the leading types of fraud reported in Canadian cases. These and other statistics were published in the 2010 Report to the Nations on Occupational Fraud & Abuse.   

Keynote speakers for the event include Carman Louise Lapointe, CFE, CIA, CCSA, Under-Secretary-General for the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) of the United Nations, and James D. Ratley, CFE, President and CEO of the ACFE. 

Other keynote speakers include Richard P. Handren, CFE, Vice President of CIBC Corporate Security, and Jeffrey Robinson, a renowned financial crime author whose works include the recently published There’s a Sucker Born Every Minute. Aaron Beam, former CFO of HealthSouth, will tell his story of being convicted for fraud in his presentation, “Caught Between Greed and Fear: The Story of the Founding, Rise and Fall of HealthSouth.” 

With educational workshops, a panel discussion, and networking opportunities throughout the conference, the ACFE urges auditors, anti-fraud professionals, accountants, compliance officers, security and law enforcement professionals, solicitors and anyone whose job involves the detection and/or prevention of fraud to attend.
